One can’t help but smile when a brass band plays the yesteryear’s song ‘Yaad teri aayegi…’ during the funeral ceremony of the main characters. Like in Mahabharata you have the Pandavas’ step brother Karna being instigated to go against the Pandavas, in GOW 2, you have Definte being used by Ramadheer against his brother Faizal.ĭespite the film being a revenge saga, there are some quirky moments in the film that evoke laughter despite the brutal or at times gloomy settings. One can’t help but draw a comparison between GOW 2 and Mahabharata where two feuding families want to take control of the kingdom. And Ramadheer (Tigmanshu) rightly sums up in the film that he survived in this world of crime and politics all these years because he never was interested in films. Right from sporting hairstyles and dress sense of Bollywood actors to having Bollywood ringtones, the world of Wasseypur seems to be obsessed with everything filmy and crime. Bollywood prevails dominantly in the film and most of the characters seem to have an idol which in itself is quite fascinating. The characterization of each actor in the film has been brilliantly etched out and a vast research has been undertaken to make them look authentic. Like their queer names, these characters are in themselves very exciting. GOW 2 brings about quite a few new interesting characters and among them, Perpendicular and Faizal’s step brother Definite (Zeishan Qadri) stand out.

But there are other elements who now wants a part of Faizal’s success story and in this melee, Faizal’s crazy 14-year old brother Perpendicular gets killed and now it’s a full fledged gang war. Ramadheer in a game of politics calls for a truce with Faizal. Simultaneously, he journeys across his love life with the beautiful Mohsina (Huma Qureshi).
As the haze of the pot slowly clears from in front of his eyes, its bloody mayhem all the way as Faizal builds up his little empire by his open warfare with his rival Ramadheer Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia). But then you can’t real blame anyone since the prequel itself was all about establishing the characters and the story and in the sequel, the story simply moves on from frame one and is all about vendetta with a V.įaizal brilliantly portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a pot smoking laid back guy who is goaded by his mother (Richa Chadda) to take up arms to avenge his father’s (Manoj Bajpayee) and his elder brother Danish’s (Vineet Singh) death. From the Sri Devi starrer ‘Nigahen’, sequel to the hit ‘Nagina’ to the ‘Double Dhamaal’ of late, sequels (not withstanding ‘inspired’ hit prequels/sequels) have never had a decent run at the box office till ‘Gangs of Wasseypur II’ happened and how!Īnurag Kashyap’s best offering so far, GOW 2 has broken the age old tradition of flop sequels and in fact is much more riveting than the prequel. Hindi Film Industry has a reputation of screwing up with sequels in the long run.
